Back To Work

Ok, so right now I am at work and since I have a little time I decided that I would blog. I was not supposed to start work until Monday, but they called begging for help. And since there are going to be few times that I can actually help them I decided I would. (With alot of encouragement from Josh. I think he just wanted Gavin to himself.) Anyways so here I am at work. It has been fine but only if I don't think about it too much. Well here are some recent pictures that I have taken in the last few days. He is getting so big and I just love his smile, especially when they are for me. Last weekend our friends Joanna and Pat were in town. It was great getting to see them. Jo informed us that they will be working on a playmate for Gavin but not until June 2010. It may seem far for some, but we are excited that it is even being discussed. We went to see Body Worlds 2. I had been dying to go, but Josh never wanted to. (Something about dead open bodies seems to freak him out.) It was neat, but VERY CROWDED. I wish I went to see the first one. Jo said that the fertility/embryo section was much better. I always said that the only reason medical school sounded fun was because you get to disect a cadiver (sp?).

Catch Up

Ok so my last real posting was a week ago. Here is catch up. All Gavin's test came back normal. THANK GOD!!! Gavin sees a physical therapist once a week for his neck. It is going well and the physical therapist said his Torticallis is mild. Our "homework" is to play with him 3 times a day atleast where he tracks a toy left and right while on his tummy, back, and sitting up. We also have to do a neck stretch which he hates, but mommy still does it while he cries. Hopefully he will stop fighting the stretch at some point.

Last Thursday Gavin got his 2 month shots also. When we went for his 2 month well check he had a temperature of 100. This time it was fine. He did well and was VERY BRAVE! Even mommy did well.

Last weekend we went to Dallas to see family. We attended 2 birthday parties. One for Andrew who is 2 and the other is August who is 3. Gavin had a good time.

He even was happy to wear his party hat.

Our ride to Dallas! We all fit and for those who don't know I always overpack and everything still fit.

This week was also my Birthday (Feb 11). I turned 27. WOW I don't even feel that old. (most of the time) We went to eat mexican food, which is my favorite. I took the day easy.

I bought this onesie before Gavin was born. It should go with the title of "WHY?". I think he knew how silly he looked because he would not smile for the picture and then he spit up all over it within 30 min of putting it on.

Gavin visited his new friend Brady. Brady is 2 weeks old and weighs 9 lbs now. WOW the size difference! I couldn't believe how big Gavin was until I saw him next to Brady.

On Friday Gavin went to visit Josh's work. They had been asking to see him. Everyone thought he was sooo cute and that he was Josh's twin.

Well that is it for now. Hopefully I will keep things updated sooner then I did this time.

Day 3 Physical Therapy

So today we went to see the physical therapist (PT) for the first time. Gavin's PT's name is Ms. Penny. She was real sweet. He is seeing a PT because of his Torticallis, which is tightening of the muscles in his neck. This causes him to not be able to completely turn his head to the left. So at the PT he is being stretched out. Ms. Penny showed me ways to play with him so that we can stretch his neck, and one actual stretch for it. He did well and was very cooperative for her. We are going to go see her once a week, then as he starts to do better she will change it to less frequent. It sounds like this is going to be a several month to year process. I am glad there are people out there that can help because if left untreated his face will be lopsided and his development can be delayed. Ms. Penny said that his Torticallis is only mild and with stretching it will get better quickly.

Tomorrow Gavin is supposed to go back to the pedi for his shots. However this whole week when I have checked his temperature it has been 100 to the highest of 100.9. (And that's been rectally) So I called the pedi's office and asked of they would hold them off again because of his temperature. The nurse said that Dr. Chandler does not give them when the temperature is greater then 100, so she said to continue to keep checking and if tomorrow it is still 100 or greater then to call and reschedule. So we will see if he gets his shots. I know that the pedi said that it's not a temperature until it reaches 101, but it seems odd that its been 100 this whole week. Oh well I will ask the pedi when I either see her tomorrow or call her.

Day 2 The Cord is Cut

Well Gavin officially had to let go of his cord today. He was not happy about it. I think he secretly keeps hoping to go back to his confined safe place. HaHa. The doctor removed it using Silver Nitrate swabs. It took only a few minutes. He was a brave boy. I also received a phone call from the Immunology doctor about his labs. The CBC white cell count was NORMAL!! This means he most likely does not have LAD and that his cord staying on so long is no big deal. However the official test does not come back until Friday. So YEAH!!!! Thank you for everyone's thoughts and prayers.

One Day Down

3 more to go. Today went well. Gavin was a champ even when they had to draw his blood. They drew 3 tubes full from his vein in his arm. He got so upset when the nurse was looking for the best vein. I was told today that he does not have very good veins, but it only took one stick still. I even did well, only a few tears shed. 2 of the test results will come back tomorrow and the most important test will come back Friday (they send it to Ohio). The doctor seemed optimistic that everything is ok and the test will be normal. They are testing for an autoimmune disorder called LAD. If left undetected can be deadly so I am glad the pedi is being cautious. I am still a little nervous but praying is helping to keep me calm and collect. Thank you everyone for the prayers. Gavin, Josh, and I truly appreciate it. Tomorrow he sees the pedi surgeon to have the cord remove. I am very curious on how this is done. I will keep everyone posted. When we got home Gavin had fun cooing and having tummy time. Once again, tummy time lasted about 3 mins before he was done with it though.

Yesturday Gavin, Josh, and I watched the superbowl with our Sunday School class. It was a blast. Gavin stayed awake almost the entire time. In fact he only slept for a total of 2-3 hours yesturday all together and therefore slept from 11 to 6 last night. Gavin even got to see his buddy Beckett. Gavin just stared at him with amazment while Beckett thought the lights where more at the time. Overall we all had a great time. Thank you to Lydia and Chris for hosting. There house was so beautiful.

2 month Well Check

We went to the pediatrician this past friday for Gavin's well baby visit. This means they weigh and measure him, then give him his shots. However, he had a low grade tempature so the shots have been postponed until this Thursday. I think Gavin was planning this all along. HaHa. Even without the shots he still had alot to do. His Stats are as follows:

Weight 12 lbs 15 oz (75-90th %)
Length 23.5 in (75-90th %)
Food Eats 4-5oz Enfamil AR every 3-4 hrs.

So he is definitely a growing boy. His 0-3 month clothes are beginning to get a little snug on him. He is also growing developmentally. He coos alot and smiles alot. He dislikes tummy time but can get him to stay there for 3 min on occasion. We are beginning to get him sleeping more through the night. He can sleep from 9:30 to 5 if we are lucky. His naps are more like cat naps but has one good nap for 2 hrs if we are lucky. So overall he is a GREAT baby.

His doctors appointment was a little disappointing though. Gavin has yet to let go of his umbilical cord. The doctor said that sometimes there can be a white blood cell problem associated with this. Therefore we are going to Texas Children's Hospital on Monday for a special blood test. I am sure everything is fine. Or atleast that is what I am telling myself. Then on Tuesday we see the pediatric surgeon to remove the cord. I am not sure how they plan on doing this, but I will update later. Also his reflux although getting better still needs to be handled. He is now on 2 different medications. Zantac 3 times a day and Bethanachol 4 times a day 30 mins before meals. One helps decrease the stomach acidity and the other increases the stomach emptying. He also has Torticallis, or stiffen of the neck, due to his reflux. It is only mild but will get much worse without help. So we are going to see a physical therapist to help with this. So when we left the doctors office we were altittle overwhelmed with all that is to come in the next week. We just ask for everyone's prayers and thoughts for Gavin.
